About Me
Hi, I am Dylan A.P. Davis!
Fantasy has captured my imagination since a young age across every form of media I’ve encountered. From slaying dragons in RPGs, to peeking down the road not traveled in Choose Your Own Adventure books, I’ve always been fascinated with the prospect of escaping into another world with its own history, magic, and creatures. Through writing the Cormand Chronicles, I’ve finally had the opportunity to explore a world of my own making that hits upon (and even challenges) everything I love about the Fantasy genre.
A bit of my own history: I wrote a LOT in high school, enough so that I had a handful of English teachers that were a little disappointed that I went into tech instead of sticking with writing. For much of my young adulthood, I threw myself into programming and computer science, finding deep satisfaction in the core task of problem-solving that comes with the profession. Once I finished my doctorate in Computer Engineering with a focus on optical network survivability (finding routes through a network that can survive a disaster and enable people to remain connected despite physical failures), I went headfirst into the real world and got a job as a Software Engineer.
Like many others, COVID-19 changed my priorities in life up a bit, and I came back to my core love of writing. After a couple of years of moderate isolation and free time given back to me through cutting out a commute, I’ve put together this work. My graduate studies in disaster survivability trained me well in the art of imagining all the ways something can go wrong. This is great for coming up with story beats - “What’s the worst thing that could happen next?” - but unfortunate news for my characters. I hope you enjoy what they go through at least!
If you would like to check out my previous technical publications because you’re into that sort of thing, feel free to take a look at my Google Scholar page.
